Day One.
7am.
My house is echoing with a relentless screaming. Not a great start.
I get out of bed....
Wait. That sounds far too glamorous.
... I STAGGER from my bed and follow the screams to Mr 12's bedroom. Inside his room is Miss 8, screaming bloody murder as Mr 12 is unpacking a boardgame.
Relieved that no one has, in fact, been tragically murdered, I query the screaming. Mr 12 has decided that in the absence of his Xbox, he's going to play a boardgame with Miss 8. Miss 8 is screaming because he's chosen HER boardgame and she doesn't trust him with it. Mr 10 is eating a bowl of cereal, oblivious to the drama going on at the other end of the house.
What a beginning. We get organised for the day and leave to visit the grandparents for a while.
By lunchtime, the kids have happily played together for a total of about 10 minutes and Miss 8 has dissolved into tears to tell me that NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY WITH HER. Reflective thinking isn't really her thing.
Mr 12 is at a loose end and has decided to entertain himself by antagonising Miss 8 whenever she gets close. Mr 10 is quite happy. He isn't as obsessive with technology, and only plays it in the absence of siblings to interact with. Suddenly he has an EXCESS of siblings and it is fabulous.
Until Mr 12 decides to antagonise Mr 10 instead.
Miss 8 is now wailing that NO ONE LIKES HER. Apparently I don't count. And she still doesn't like Mr 12 because he ANNOYS HER. Mr 12 thinks this is hilarious and begin to taunt her again.
It is now 4pm and the house is once again silent as they all reconnect to their devices for an hour. While I'm enjoying the silence, the guilt is extreme. The irony of me blogging this is not lost on me.
Mr 12 just asked if he can 'finish his game' even though the hour is up. If my eyes could roll any harder I would probably pass out.

The evening is filled with soccer practice and jogging, cooking dinner and tv. Just like a regular family.
Bedtime includes forced reading. Just like a regular family.
Mr 12 has decided that he'd rather just go to sleep at 8pm.
And so ends Day 1.
I survived.
